✍🏽Writing is the path to wisdom

After a 2 year break of producing content, I’ve realized a few things:

  1. Learning (and unlearning) is the #1 skill you need to stay ahead in a rapidly changing world

  2. I love learning, and honestly cant stop.

  3. There is no end to learning. Its a constant process of updating your internal models of the world

  4. I love sharing (and discussing) ideas with others

  5. Writing is one of the best ways to clear and refine your thinking. In fact, it is a different form of thinking - more effortful and deeper, often leading to insights of wisdom

As such, I’ve decided to commit to the path of the writer and you can expect much more writing from me from now on

The Slipstream will be a channel to pass on the most impactful, important and useful ideas I’ve ever found as well as those I’ve discovered, refined and used in my own life.

I know how to go from being stuck in the matrix to being free and living a life of purpose. After 6 years as an entrepreneur and 10 years of nutritional experimentation and physical training I now know how to help most people cut through the resistance and noise in their lives and break through to a better version of themselves. More than that, it’s something I have a yearning to do.

I now know how the conditioning of school and university makes it near impossible for the everyday man to break out of the rat race. But that, of course, is the design of the system.

After 6 years of daily learning and deep work, I am able to better see fully what were the paradigms and ideas that held me back, and what I needed to replace them with, in order to achieve the life that I want.

I want to help other people break out of their mental paradigms and enable them to create the life of their dreams. This is the first step, by introducing you to the ideas and behaviours that will set you free.

I’ll be developing products and tools to help the people stuck in corporate make this change, gain mastery over their own mind and fears, unlearn the paradigms that have been holding them back and install new ideas that will propel them forward to unimaginable success.

Why should you be excited about The Slipstream?

Now, before you raise your hand at the obvious concerns this diet brings, know that it has taken me about a year of research to eventually make this choice! What might be more shocking to believe is that the year prior I had actually been completely vegan!

You see, nutrition is a fundamental part of health and I’ve always been interested in the most effective protocols and the science behind them.

In the essay I published last week, I walk through my 10 year history with dieting, give you the reasons I went vegan in the first place, and then walk you through the ideas that have changed my thinking since then, so much so that I now believe this is the more correct way to approach diet and nutrition.

Dr Huberman is an excellent teacher. He explains, with biological reference the various mechanisms in our body, how we can leverage our environment and habits to put us in an optimal state for work, and life. A lot of it centers around our own management of dopamine, a critical hormone that is responsible for motivation, craving and pursuit of goals - but not the actual pleasure!

Productivity is something we all want to be better at. There’s a saying that goes - "show me the first 3 hours of your day and I’ll show you your future". What it means is that how you start your day is extremely important to setting the tone for the rest of the day. I have experienced this on both ends of the spectrum, having completely unproductive days as well as having highly structured and productive days, and those first few hours of the day set the precedent for what unfolded.

It literally makes all the difference.

Some practical recommendations: Get natural light into your eyes within 1 hour of waking up. Incorporate exercise as early as possible. Cold showers can wake the body and mind up and strengthen the mind. Wait 90 minutes before drinking any caffeine.

However, you got to watch the video to truly understand why.

  1. These simple tools can have a profound positive impact on mood, energy, metabolism, dopamine, sleep, focus, body temp and more.

  2. When you understand how your body works and why movement and natural sunlight are so critical, you’ll find it much easier to commit to and maintain a morning routine.

  3. Your morning routine is the first “tool” you use everyday. It sets you up for success or failure. It's best to set yourself up for success.

A study has shown that people with stronger narcissistic traits end up much higher on the corporate hierarchy. Being manipulative, self-centered, domineering and authoritarian can get results, but often at the cost of inter-personal relationships, mental health and true long term productivity. Yet we all know how companies tend to overlook this obvious reality, to not think too deeply about their “different” star performers.

This study explains why corporate environments are toxic, stressful and often counter-productive. But more so, this study provides an important signal about the system known as corporate capitalism.

Driven by short-term profits and the attitude that humans are expendable inputs (costs), companies are designed to select for and encourage an attitude of ruthlessness and service-to-self. Exceptions occur, but they remain exceptions.

Why should you consider this idea?

  1. Most people have had, or are in, a corporate job. This idea explains your experiences with self-serving and abrasive personalities, as well as confusion at how the company can allow such people within.

  2. If you’re vying for a promotion in your company it’s important to know what characteristics are more likely for promotion.

  3. While we all may be prone to narcissistic moods, if we’re in an environment that selects and rewards for this, it will increasingly become a part of our personality. Do you want to become narcissistic?

  4. If success in corporate means moving away from your higher self and becoming someone you like less, why are you doing it?
